Nairobi, Kenya – Narrative Landscape Press East Africa successfully launched Instances of Exceptional Moments of Hunger at the Africa Forward Fest held at Alliance Française Nairobi on
8 May 2026, marking a significant moment for African literature and the continent’s growing creative economy.
Edited by acclaimed author and publisher Eghosa Imasuen, the anthology is the inaugural
CANEX Book Factory African Anthology and features nineteen emerging writers from across Africa and the diaspora. Developed through the CANEX Creative Writing Workshop, the collection explores themes of longing, survival, memory, tenderness, and identity through contemporary African storytelling.
Among the writers present at the launch was Evelyn Gachuchu, whose contribution marks her first published appearance in a literary anthology.

The event also featured Troy Onyango, reviewer for the 2024 CANEX cohort and instructor for the 2025 workshop, who encouraged emerging writers to pursue emotional honesty, discipline, and authenticity in storytelling.
Speaking during the launch, Imasuen highlighted the role of CANEX and Afreximbank in elevating Africa’s creative industries.
“CANEX is proving that the creative industry is central to Africa’s future,” he said.

The Creative Africa Nexus (CANEX), supported by Afreximbank, continues to invest in Africa’s creative and cultural industries through funding, infrastructure, and capacity-building programmes for creatives across the continent.
